Ext GWT 1.0 Beta released

Ext GWT

The library formerly known as MyGWT is now being released under a new name, Ext GWT. It is also now officially part of the Ext JS product line. For those who haven’t tried it yet, Ext GWT is a really nice, easy to use widget library for GWT. This new version supports GWT 1.5 and all the Java 1.5 features that come with it.

It looks like the MyGWT page is unaccessible now, which is a shame since I think there was a lot of good information on the old forums. Ext GWT, GWT-Ext, it’s all getting confusing now…

Update:

It looks like the change to a GPL license for Ext JS and Ext GWT is causing quite a bit of discussion.

Probably worth mentioning that MyGWT / Ext GWT is now GPL. Yikes!!

I think it is a shame that this has happend so fast, without much consultation or warning – the transition has occured quickly without allowing folk still using myGWT 0.5 to consider their options – in fact, given the poor quality of the 1.0 beta 1, lack of docs and direction, some folks might jump ship to the more mature ext-gwt wrapper, or other GWT UI toolkits around. Let’s hope it works out for the guys…

Agreed, this has been a real mess from the repeatedly-promised-but-never-delivered MyGWT 1.0 beta on. Anyone basing a product on 0.5 just seems to have been completely screwed for no good reason. I really want a production-quality Java-based GWT UI toolkit (and I’d happliy pay for it) but this is just about the worst way of going about releasing a new product that I could imagine.
